Long time no see…

It’s been a busy summer what with my company being bought out and a little one who now can walk and explore places such as kitchen cabinets and eh… shall we say ‘sanitary fixtures’? Sorry there’s been no new music here for the last few but things are starting to slow down a bit so music posts should be picking up again. To start off, go check out Stephen Garton’s page. Stephen composes orchestral music. He has thirteen tracks on his site, but unfortunately they are not downloadable. But they are definitely worth listening to, just leave a browser window open in the background and let the sites flash player do the work.

If anyone still comes around these parts, if you know of a band or artist that has music on the web that deserves a mention here, then please by all means contact me. It takes quite a bit of time to search through all the music, worth posting and otherwise, that I come across on the web.

Album artWhew! It’s been a while since I posted, summer has been very busy. At any rate, here’s Arturo Garces with a very nice set of minimal dance tracks. Deep sounds and beats with just the right amount of swing will get you moving. Or at least snapping your fingers. Look for the third release from the top of the page.

Schilli-San – Smooth Situations

Schilli SanFrom the German net label Sofasound comes Schilli San. Smooth Situations is indeed what this release is all about; it doesn’t get much smoother. I once heard that if the mirror inside the hubble space telescope was scaled up to the size of the Atlantic ocean, the imperfections would only be a couple thousandths of an inch high. Thats how smooth these seven tracks are. Jazz influences combine with slightly glitchy drum tracks and acoustic instruments are mixed with synthesized instruments and samples that drive the whole thing home. Smooth Situations is a don’t miss release.

Equivallentium – Unexplainable

EquivallentiumFrom the Stretching Spaces netlabel comes Equivallentium with fifty five minutes of fast paced drums and classic synth sounds. I’m not sure if this is breakbeat or hip hop or techno or what, but it is definitely worth a listen. BTW, to find it you need to scroll about two thirds of the way down the page; it’s listed as ‘STRETCH017’.

Easily EmbarrassedOne single track, weighing in at just under twenty one minutes, it’s like moving through a tunnel – the entrance starts at a cold, technological and sterile environment. The exit is completely opposite, a lush organic aurally rich world of melodies and textures. This is a pleasant train ride through a mountain of possible sound.

Kali Frogz – Archive EP

Kali FrogzThis set of tracks has a dark, sort of industrial, feel to it. Sparse at times, dense at others, the music throughout has a deeply disturbing feel to it. Droning bass pads and hip hop drum samples accompany a variety of sounds, including Dr. Martin Luther King, robotic vocals, and other, more disturbing, noises. I usually don’t care for experimental stuff, but Kali Frogz is an exception. Only five tracks, this EP clocks in at almost thirty four minutes. Best to listen to in a dark room with no disturbances.
