Aviary, an online image editor

I found a great image editor / paint program. It features some really cool effects and a way of creating art that I’ve never seen before – in a visual art package anyway. It uses generators and effects that can be chained together like audio components use cables to route signals. It’s free, but it will stick a watermark on your images unless you upgrade to the 24.99 / year Pro account.

Brigitte Bijoux – Le Fleuve Profond

id003_frontcover_mittelBrigitte Bijoux is something of an anomaly in the world of electro. She creates music similar to Hermegerville,  but with a more ‘no nonsense’ attitude, as if it is a job that needs to get done and get done right. And get it right she does. Backing the thumping, distorted beats with ethereal sounding strings and samples, and incorporating a sort of down tempo, trip hop feel, this is electro / dj music at its finest.

Kilowatts – Six Silicates

Kilowatts - Six SilicatesThis ‘jewel’ of an EP features a funky and upbeat set of six tracks. The first three tracks move you with staccato melodies that mix together to form a grandiose result of sound. At track four, it mellows out into a beautiful mesh of popping, clicking, almost glitch like rhythmic air. Track five picks the pace back up with a sort of electro / distorted guitar sound, but without disturbing the overall ambience of the entire work. The EP finishes up with a dark, mysterious track named Kyanite, a sweet house tune that goes all over the map and has an almost cinematic quality to it. This is a definite fave for the year, don’t miss it.

Phvsr – Bassment

Phvsr - BassmentPhvsr offers us four tracks of well produced house music. Clocking in at just under half an hour, this release does what house music should do – get you moving. Good synth work, big fat square basses and grooving drum patterns all fit together snugly. I’m a big fan of beat drop outs and drop ins and syncopated basslines, and Phvsr definitely delivers with this release.

sleepmakeswaves – In Today Already Walks Tomorrow

Cover art

A beautiful and moving release, the band sleepmakeswaves from Sydney gives us almost forty minutes of sweeping ambience intermingled with heavy guitars. ‘In Today Already Walks Tomorrow’ is beyond post-rock, beyond progressive. These Aussies have invented something all their own. The music presented here is sometimes quiet and introspective, sometimes loud, rowdy and in your face. If you like The Big Sleep, Three, or Explosions in the Sky, then you will love sleepmakeswaves.

The World in panoramic – ViewAt.org

I have long been fascinated with panoramic photography, although my own experiments with the technique have been, eh, less than satisfactory. ViewAt.org has some beautiful, breathtaking panoramic photography of various locations throughout the world. The photos are arranged on a google map, and the site has it’s own viewer that lets you select standard or high resolution. Quick tip – you can use the arrow keys to move around in the photo, and shift and control to zoom in and out, respectivley.

Die Russian spammers, die!!!

Ok, here is the scoop. Somehow bahgheera.com suffered a php injection attack. Basically, every single php file on the server has had a single line of code added to it that inserts a bunch of online gambling and viagara links into the page source.  I’m busy working on a script to remove the attack script, but I’m no php expert so it will take a while.  If any of you kind folks are into php programming and know how to help out, I sure would appreciate some pointers here and there.

If you do notice any fishy links littering the site, please believe me when I say I didn’t put them there and they are to be removed ASAP!

Thanks for all your support.
