• Technical difficulties

Sorry folks… if you had a membership here you’ll have to redo everything. At least until I figure how to move the member database. I had to create a whole new MySQL database, then import the old one into the new one… it’s a long story. At any rate, WordPress is fully upgraded now and I can get back to the business of bringing you music.

  • Hypnagog – Dreaming In Pieces EP

Hypnagog gives us a sweet little EP featuring four tracks of glitched out something or other that I can’t quite classify, but believe me – it scratches the techno itch like you wouldn’t believe. The first track, Still Dreaming, will have you bouncing all over the place with its sine-y synth work and dBlue style glitchy drums, followed by Funkdiddle, a house track with a soul that delivers funk straight into your brain. Track three, Tiny Little Pieces goes into a speculation on what its all about with a nice and airy, relaxing tune. I love Hypnagogs use of sinewaves, jumpy but calming at the same time. Track four, Reflections No. 2, starts out as a cinematic, orchestral audio experience that slowly introduces a great bassline and those awesome sinewaves again and almost giving off an 80’s industrial pop vibe. This EP is a great release for starting off the new year, check it out.

  • Merry Christmas!

I wish each and every one of you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! It’s been a great year for music, I have found so much great stuff on the net these last twelve months that I wish I had time to share with you. For instance, the band Sheavy – probably one of my favorite bands of the last decade, thanks FreeAlbumsGalore! Also discovered this year were Jitney, Cool Devices and we were also blessed with a new release from Brad Sucks. Of course, I keep this blog family friendly so some of these didn’t get a post, but if you’re handy with google you can search this stuff out no problem.

I will be traveling on and off for the first quarter of 2010, so in my downtime I plan to refocus myself on web design and music. So check back every so often, 2010 is going to be a great one!

  • James Edwards – Christmas Bells

James Edwards - Christmas BellsJames Edwards plays a mean acoustic guitar, and on this release he offers ten tracks of technically excellent acoustic Christmas music that will make a perfect background for your holiday get-together.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  • Nic Bommarito – Harp Fragments

Front-500Nic Bommarito offers seven tracks on Harp Fragments, a postrock release that is filled to the brim with washy pianos and strings, and great big drum sounds. Not afraid to incorporate any instrument at all, the overall style of the album drifts, but not too far, away from postrock and brushes against bluegrass, folk, and classical. Sometimes quiet and thoughtful, Nic’s music can suddenly burst into a cacophonous explosion of drums only to quickly fade back into a quite anesthetic synth line, all the while keeping it together with distant, echoing guitar patterns.

  • Well well well…

Let me sum up my entire creative output over the last few months, including music creation, photography, creative writing, and blog output, in one word:

    Pleh.

I’ve been swamped with school, work, and life in general, and I’ve totally neglected the orbit. Have no fear! Holidays are coming up, and with the holidays comes time off from school. So I should have some time to update and bring you all some awesome music, just in time for Christmas.

    Stay tuned.

  • Photo manipulations by Jan Oliehoek

JanOliehoek-01Check out some outstanding illustrations by Jan Oliehoek. Jan works with photo manipulations, and was interviewed by the folks over at The Design Inspiration. Amazing combinations of animals, fantastic chimeras and biological wonders from the mind of Jan fill the page, apocalyptic visions assault the vision and sci-fi panoramas top it all off.

  • Jitney – 86-300

Mix up The Mars Volta, Beck, and throw in a little White Album from The Beatles and you’ll have a close approximation of the Folk Rock that Jitney delivers. A set of eleven tracks full of emotion; it is absolutely astounding the way he seems to channel George Harrison at certain points. Don’t miss this one.

  • Aviary, an online image editor

I found a great image editor / paint program. It features some really cool effects and a way of creating art that I’ve never seen before – in a visual art package anyway. It uses generators and effects that can be chained together like audio components use cables to route signals. It’s free, but it will stick a watermark on your images unless you upgrade to the 24.99 / year Pro account.

  • Brigitte Bijoux – Le Fleuve Profond

id003_frontcover_mittelBrigitte Bijoux is something of an anomaly in the world of electro. She creates music similar to Hermegerville,  but with a more ‘no nonsense’ attitude, as if it is a job that needs to get done and get done right. And get it right she does. Backing the thumping, distorted beats with ethereal sounding strings and samples, and incorporating a sort of down tempo, trip hop feel, this is electro / dj music at its finest.
