Blue Balloons is reminiscent of Revolution Void and Boards of Canada, though not as all over the place – these tracks are more structured, and would be perfect background for some trip-hop vocals. I especially love the big fat square bass synth in my favorite track from the album and that is track 5 – Nightbeat. All in all, this is an excellent release, one of the best I’ve heard this year.

Clocking in at almost two hours, the music barely moves but is somehow filled with motion, giving the sense of floating along on a galactic river full of light while watching the universe move from past to present to future. This is a sort of ambient postrock, as it is guitar driven with heavy use of effect pedals. Andrew posts much of his work on youtube, along with instructional videos of how to achieve his effects, He also offers three of his other albums (which I have not listened to yet, but have on my short list) on his website. You can also visit his facebook page and let him know his work is appreciated.

Track one, Moravka, is an emotive bit of rock that stays distant, but still gets your head bobbing. The haunting, faraway vocals in this track are the icing on the cake.

The second track starts out with a nice long build reminiscent of songs by Tool, that finally crescendos into an acoustic piece that contains plenty of movement, finally erupting into full glory with all guitars switching on the distortion and rocking out some super heavy guitar riffs before a quiet, introspective break that builds back into an acoustic rambling.

Tracks three, four and five follow suit – especially track four, the title track, which is nothing but a pure heavy metal implosion, and more creative rock guitar and thunderous drum work combine for a beautifully artistic music experience to finish up. This release is top notch.

One of the best yet by Loss Of A Child. Carry Me Home is well produced, heavily written post-rock that makes use of guitar and drums for a standard post-rock sound but adds piano and strings on top of that to give it an orchestral feel, a labyrinth of intricacies and variations. This entire release actually feels like a soundtrack to a movie – a movie that I’d definitely want to see. Featuring some very diverse artists from all over the world, the stand out track on the album is from a Ukrainian band called Nice Wings, Icarus! Their track, Eagle, is absolutely superb. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of them here on the orbit in the very near future. Back to the current release, it grabbed me from the very first track – a very ambient piece by The Sight Below – and wouldn’t let go. I literally listened to the entire album as soon as I clicked play – given my schedule, thats a rarity for me. The intensely mellow first track quickly gave way to an onslaught of post-rock, shoegazer, psychedelic and even modern piano composition. Each track is unique, making this a difficult album to describe. I’ll simply say this: it’s an incredible album, and I urge you to give it a listen.
