More ambient goodness from Good Weather For An Airstrike, a UK project that was originally intended to create relaxing sounds to combat tinnitus and aid in falling asleep. Their sound is definitely relaxing, and inspired by such artists as Brian Eno and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Overall this is definitely worth checking out.

Andrew Othling, aka Lowercase Noises, offers a superb album of ambient guitar music. Clocking in at almost two hours, the music barely moves but is somehow filled with motion, giving the sense of floating along on a galactic river full of light while watching the universe move from past to present to future. This is a sort of ambient postrock, as it is guitar driven with heavy use of effect pedals. Andrew posts much of his work on youtube, along with instructional videos of how to achieve his effects, He also offers three of his other albums (which I have not listened to yet, but have on my short list) on his website. Hooray, the orbit is not dead yet! I just discovered the ambient post-rock group Hammock last night via a post on Facebook linking to one of their songs on youtube. I was instantly enthralled. Hammock, is a collaboration between Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson out of Nashville, TN. Their music creates such a transporting atmosphere, with washed out vocals, subtle beats, and huge echoing guitar tracks. I know you’ll love it, if you enjoy The Big Sleep or Explosions in the Sky. One note: this is a departure from what the orbit normally brings you, as the albums are not downloadable. Sorry folks, but these guys are too good for me not to mention, so you’ll just have to let soundcloud play it for you in the background. Enjoy!

A quiet, introspective release of ten tracks totaling almost an hour of music. Reminiscent of Orange Crush, this album has a sense of inner peace and calm, merging electronic ideas with pop sensibilities. Rolling guitars washed in echo build and swell alongside synths and drums, with a music box-like sound pervading the entire release.

A pleasant, quiet experience is Halogens Length and Brecht, an ambient track that meanders in and out of the dream-state. This EP is Halogens track along with three remixes, each one a superb take on the original. The remixes cover styles ranging from glitch to chillout to idm. This is a great set of music, don’t miss it.

Though ambient is not normally my thing, there is enough motion here to keep my interest all the way through. Strange Dreams is a release that is light and airy at times, dark and heavy at others, but guaranteed to relax you when listened to properly. Fourteen tracks clocking in at just under one hour, this release features plenty of details to keep your attention focused, even going so far as to include vocals in some places.

Lost Children netlabel and The Silent Ballet have put together an absolutely stunning 75 minute long adventure through the universe of post-rock with the release of The Silent Ballet Compilation volume 14. Featuring some very diverse artists from all over the world, the stand out track on the album is from a Ukrainian band called Nice Wings, Icarus! Their track, Eagle, is absolutely superb. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of them here on the orbit in the very near future. Back to the current release, it grabbed me from the very first track – a very ambient piece by The Sight Below – and wouldn’t let go. I literally listened to the entire album as soon as I clicked play – given my schedule, thats a rarity for me. The intensely mellow first track quickly gave way to an onslaught of post-rock, shoegazer, psychedelic and even modern piano composition. Each track is unique, making this a difficult album to describe. I’ll simply say this: it’s an incredible album, and I urge you to give it a listen.
