Rebirth?

The world of online music has changed greatly since I started this blog. When I started this blog, the idea was to highlight great music that I found online from non-commercial artists; the bedroom producers and the garage bands.

Now, everyone is on soundcloud or garageband. It’s harder to find quality, freely downloadable albums. Of course kahvi and the like are still around, still producing quality content. But I don’t want to become a lame repost blog for a handful of sites.

So what I’m thinking of doing here is highlighting one track per week from soundcloud. There are many quality artists there producing massive amounts of great music that needs to be heard. I will attempt to post one great track every week from one of these artists. Is it a rebirth of the orbit? Who knows – I may lose impetus after a couple of weeks, or I may not. I feel like I’ve turned a corner in my personal life though, and am in the process of reinventing myself so this very well may stick.

Let the blogging begin!

Technical difficulties

Sorry folks… if you had a membership here you’ll have to redo everything. At least until I figure how to move the member database. I had to create a whole new MySQL database, then import the old one into the new one… it’s a long story. At any rate, WordPress is fully upgraded now and I can get back to the business of bringing you music.

Merry Christmas!

I wish each and every one of you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! It’s been a great year for music, I have found so much great stuff on the net these last twelve months that I wish I had time to share with you. For instance, the band Sheavy – probably one of my favorite bands of the last decade, thanks FreeAlbumsGalore! Also discovered this year were Jitney, Cool Devices and we were also blessed with a new release from Brad Sucks. Of course, I keep this blog family friendly so some of these didn’t get a post, but if you’re handy with google you can search this stuff out no problem.

I will be traveling on and off for the first quarter of 2010, so in my downtime I plan to refocus myself on web design and music. So check back every so often, 2010 is going to be a great one!

Die Russian spammers, die!!!

Ok, here is the scoop. Somehow bahgheera.com suffered a php injection attack. Basically, every single php file on the server has had a single line of code added to it that inserts a bunch of online gambling and viagara links into the page source.  I’m busy working on a script to remove the attack script, but I’m no php expert so it will take a while.  If any of you kind folks are into php programming and know how to help out, I sure would appreciate some pointers here and there.

If you do notice any fishy links littering the site, please believe me when I say I didn’t put them there and they are to be removed ASAP!

Thanks for all your support.

ATTENTION: REAL PEOPLE!!

Ok, it’s ridiculous the amount of spam that comes in from the comment section on this site. There are thousands and thousands of them, I don’t have the time to weed through and find out which are legit comments and which aren’t. 99% of the comments here on the orbit are for Viagra or other medications. So – here’s what I’d like. If you are a legitimate visitor of this blog, please leave a comment. I’d like to know what kind of traffic I’m getting but the ev0l spammers are messing it all up for me. 🙁

Thanks a lot!!

EDIT: I finally went through the user list and purged all the fake accounts, especially if the email address ended in mail.ru. So if you are a legitimate user and got deleted (I deleted about 200 accounts) please sign up again and leave a comment! Thanks.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

EBSPlease bear with me, if the site looks strange (well it definitely looks strange in Internet Explorer anyway). I’m in the process of developing my own theme for the site, so there will be some ‘technical difficulties’ for a few days. Please stand by. Had this been a real emergency… etc.

Update: IE is killing me.

I just checked out the site from within Internet Explorer. I must apologize to IE users, the site is completely broken in IE. Until I cantrack down the problem(s), bahgheera’s orbit is best viewed with Firefox. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update

So by now, you have to have noticed. I’ve done away with my own hand coded php blog software. Yes, it’s gone. So if you registered before, I’ll try to get your account transferred and a password change email sent out. Thanks for bearing with me.

So what did I replace the software with? WordPress. A ready made blog software package that is themeable, configurable, and handles everything I want it to. Now instead of spending time wading through an endless sea of php code, I’ll spend that time looking for new music. So enjoy the new style enjoy the music.
